SKYPE

Room14 learned how to SKYPE on the Library computers. Half of our class went to Room 4 and we Skyped people in the library. We talked through a microphone which was really small. We look at the computer and could see each other through a web camera. We were learning to Skype so we can talk with Cailin in Dunedin. It was cool!

MURPHY AND STELLA COME TO VISIT

On Thursday Murphy and Stella came to visit Room 14. Murphy and Stella are Helen's dogs. Murphy is a naughty and rough black puppy. Stella is calm and soft. I was holding Murphy's lead and he ran off. I was still holding onto his lead and he dragged me along the ground on my tummy! It was funny. Stella was calm and playful but I didn't get to hold her lead. I just patted her.

The dogs came to visit because we are going to write a picture book about the crazy adventures Murphy and Stella get up to when Helen is at school.

CREATIVE WRITING

Creative Writing: One evening last summer...

One evening last summer Jim and Debbie took a drive through the forest. Then from out of nowhere a spaceship came. Weeb, weeb, weeb! Jim and Debbie hid behind a bush but it was no good, the aliens saw them. Luckily they were nice aliens. One was called Ding Dong because he slept with an alarm clock on all day. The other alien was called Tavooscy because that’s what everybody called him.

“Do you want to come to Zozspliespok?” the aliens asked. “Yes”, said Debbie. So they all went to Zozspliespok. There were aliens everywhere. There were computers, playstations and DSs. They all had a sleepover and the next morning Tavooscy was standing over Jim and Debbie. “Run away!” they shouted.

Jim and Debbie ran back to the spaceship and they flew back home. They ran into the house. Just then Jim’s mum came in. She asked “Why is there an alien’s spaceship in the backyard?” “Long story, long story mum!”

WINTER SENSES POEMS

CREATIVE WRITING:
We are learning to use adjectives in our writing to make it more interesting.

Winter feels like rolling around in the snow and feeling cold air blowing in my ears.
Winter smells like steaming hot chocolate on cold mornings.
Winter looks like smoking black chimneys while I walk to school in the cold weather.
Winter tastes like hot pumpkin soup trickling down my throat.
Winter sounds like cold cars with squeaking brakes as they zoom down the street.
By Oscar

Winter feels like me sitting by the crackling fire with my hot chocolate, yummy.
Winter smells like a foggy smoky smell in the lounge at night.
Winter looks like the moon shining bright in the night.
Winter tastes like steaming hot chocolates.
Winter sounds like cold hailstones crashing on the car windscreen.

MAKING TUATARA

Cleo showed us how to shape the clay by rolling balls and cylinders.

We shaped the soft clay into the right shapes for the head, body, tail, spikes and legs.

We mixed shades of paint for the body of the tuatara. The spikes were painted white.

When the first coat of paint had dried we painted some camouflage colours onto our tuatara.

Pretty cool aye!

CLASS PARTY

We had a party in Room 14 to celebrate lots of exciting events:

* It was Cleo's last day with us. We are very sad to see her go but we have had a super time with Cleo!

* Cailin came back to Nelson for the weekend to stay with Quanah. She popped in for the afternoon. Great to see you again Cailin.

* We finally got to celebrate Emma having her cast off - what a relief for Emma.

* 1000 hits on our blog. It's great to know that people are interested in the great learning Room 14 are doing.

It was great to catch up with Cailin - we all miss her heaps!

Thanks for everything Cleo - you are awesome!
